Course Description
There's a severe substitute teacher shortage in schools across the nation. In fact, some schools are now recruiting PTA moms and dads, college students, and even high school students for substitute teaching jobs. But most school districts don't offer training programs for subs--unless you define "training" as instruction in the school bell schedule, restroom locations, and class attendance procedures. I created this online course to help you become a substitute teacher and work successfully with students of all ages!
Here's a little-known secret: 28 states allow anyone with a high school diploma or a GED to become a substitute teacher. Only one state (Iowa) requires teaching certification for substitute teachers. Many others set minimum substitute teaching job requirements.
You can:
*Earn competitive pay--up to $200 a day in some school districts--while providing an important community service (some school districts even provide their substitute teachers with benefits packages!)
*Work a convenient, flexible schedule
--ATTENTION PARENTS: Substitute teaching jobs fit perfectly with your children's school hours!
*Work daily while you locate a permanent job or build a business
*Interact with children in a stimulating and challenging environment
*Gain valuable teaching, training and coaching experience
*Test out a career in teaching
*Make money while you work toward your teaching certification or credentials
*Make contacts within school districts to locate permanent positions, and much more!
My course provides real-world instruction, practical assignments, helpful short quizzes, access to scores of FREE top-quality resources, and the opportunity to interact online with other motivated students! You'll learn exactly what you need to know to become a substitute teacher, plus you'll get lots of insider tips for making the most of your time in the classroom--and much, much more!

Course Materials
This course consists of six lessons, approximately 850-1000 words each, with related short writing assignments. To measure your understanding of the material, there are two quizzes of the true/false variety.
Each lesson also includes related course components, such as website links, documents, discussion forums, class surveys, and class polls. I strongly recommend that you review carefully and participate in all of the course components attached to each lesson. They will provide you with useful information and helpful perspectives on substitute teaching.
I will provide all course materials to you.
Grading Policy
I will provide a letter grade to each student who completes this introductory-level substitute teaching course. To complete this course successfully, you must submit two quizzes and six short writing assignments and earn a score of at least 70% on each. Your writing assignments will ask you to write about various aspects of substitute teaching. These aspects are reflected in the Course Goals listed above. The quality of your writing is more important than the number of words you write, but plan to write enough to address the topics adequately. I will return any writing assignments that do not meet these requirements. If you do not attain at least a 70% on a quiz or a writing assignment, you may attempt it again for a higher score. Good luck!
Certificate Policy
Earning a certificate in this course can set you apart from the vast majority of substitute teacher applicants who have no training whatsoever in substitute teaching. You can use a certificate to show a school district that you have successfully completed a challenging course of study in substitute teacher education. I will award a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement to students earning final scores of 80% and better.
NOTE: If you pre-pay for a Certificate of Course Completion, you will receive this certificate when you complete the course. If you also want to receive a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement, UniversalClass policy requires that you pay an additional fee for this award.
