Course Description

MS-Publisher class will instruct students on how to create desktop publishing documents as flyers, newsletters, brochures, greeting cards, etc. Anyone who is interested in creating more professional looking desktop publicating documents with ease should take this course. The skills acquired can lead to employment in a printing or document-creation business.

*Student should have MS-Publisher 2003. However, MS-Publisher 2002 (XP) can be adapted.

Course Requirements

Student should be familiar with Windows-based software functions. For example, copy/paste, save/save as, print, fonts and styles, Internet, basic formatting as line spacing, indenting, etc. If student is not familiar with these, the course can be completed, but it will take a little more time to complete the various tasks.

Student should have MS-Publisher 2003. However, MS-Publisher 2002 (XP) can be adapted. Also student will need a version of Word or any compatible word processing software. A printer is helpful but documents can be viewed instead of printed, if necessary.

Must complete all lessons, tests, assignments and final projects.

Course Goals

Create professional-looking MS-Publisher documents by being able to:

Create a Publisher document from pre-designed templates.
Create a Publisher document from scratch.
Open a saved Publisher document and edit it.
Insert graphics, add columns and additional pages to Publisher document.
Print a Publisher document.
Insert plain text into a Publisher document.

Course Materials

Must have full version of MS-Publisher 2003 or version 2002 (XP). Also a version of MS-Word or any compatible word processing software.

Must have basic knowledge of Windows (any version).

Must have some keyboarding skills.

Grading Policy

Tests 60%
Assignments 20%
Final project 20%
Grading Scale 90-100 = A 89 - 80 = B 79 - 70 = C 69 - 60 = D below 60 = F
