Course Description
We will study
- systems of equations,
- rational expressions and equations,
- quadratic equations and functions,
- sequences and series,
- exponential and logarithmic functions, and
- conic sections in this course.
This is the second semester to Algebra 2 or Intermediate College Algebra 1(part 2).
This class requires the purchase of a required textbook. The price on the internet should be $20 to $35 (including shipping). See for the book information. You must have completed the Algebra 2 (first semester) or Algebra 1B to enroll in this class.
The instructor, Susan Johnsey, provides a free placement test service at her web site. If you are a high school student that needs to review or move ahead in math then please consider my classes. If you are planning to attend college and need to review your algebra then consider my online classes.
Course Requirements
You should have recently completed a high school Algebra 2 course or a college introductory algebra class. A grade of C+ or higher would be best. If you need an Algebra I course, I also teach that course here.
A book of my choice is required. It can be found easily on the internet for under $30. You will need the isbn number in order to purchase the correct book. Information for the book is at my personal web site Math in a Box, .
Course Goals
This course will prepare you to take College Algebra. Setting high goals for yourself will always be to your benefit. Ask a friend to take the course with you. You may enjoy the competition.
Course Materials
The required textbook is Intermediate Algebra, 5th edition, by Aufmann and Barker. It is an older edition of a textbook used at many universities. I can help you find it on the internet at a reduced price. It is an excellent book. The cost is usually $10 to $25 including the shipping. Information for the book is at my personal web site Math in a Box, . You msut have the correct ISBN number to purchase the book since there are many books with the same name.
Grading Policy
Each lesson will contain 1 to 3 assignments. There are at least 30 lessons and 7 tests. The assignments will be graded and at the end of each of the chapters a test will be given. Test scores of less than 76% must be retaken before continuing to the next chapter. Requests for retake of assignments may be made by a student at any time.
The grading scale:
90-100 is an A
80-89 is a B
76-79 is a C
Course Structure
I am offering to tutor you in Intermediate Algebra (Algebra 2). You may work at you own pace. I grade all assignments and tests sent to me daily. I will also answer your questions about the lessons daily.
I am online at least 345 days of the year.
You must purchase the textbook (my choice of book). You will read the online lessons for directions and helpful hints and then complete the assignments in the book.
You may email me anytime you have a question. I answer all email within a few hours but some times within a few minutes.
