Course Description

In the initial course, Be A Dog Expert- Beginner at http://class.universalclass.com/dogs1 , we covered topics about Dog breeds and groups, Behaviors, Vaccinations and minor emergencies, Homeopathic Care, and Trick training. This Intermediate course will expand on Behaviors and Training, and introduce Analyzing Foods, Organizing a Pet Sitting Coop, More First Aid in Emergencies, Starting a local Pet Sitting Business, and Grooming Basics. This course is a hands on course, and it will be necessary for students to have access to a local veterinarian clinic and either a pet of their own, or a pet they can borrow for basic grooming.

Course Requirements and Goals

Students will be given a scenario concerning a behavior and will write an essay pertaining to the correct training procedure to break the dog of the behavior while maintaining a happy dog.
Students will learn to read the labels of dog foods and be able to discern which contain harmful chemicals and which is best for a variety of breeds of dogs.
Students will understand the process of setting up a Pet Sitting Coop within their neighborhood.
First Aid will be discussed, and students will be required to spend a minimum of 2 hours at a local veterinarian, observing general practice. (Students are not required to assist or watch surgeries.)
Students will learn how to set up a Pet Sitting Business, and will submit a business plan as part of their final. Each student will be required to groom a dog following the basics outlined, and will submit before and after photos. If you do not own a pet, you may have to borrow a neighbor s, or contact the local Humane Society, and offer a free grooming for one dog. (More will be covered about how to proceed with this in the actual lesson.)

By the end of this course the student will be proficient in setting up a Pet Sitting business, making appoinments, handling first aid in an emergency, basic grooming, and understanding feed labels and analysis.

Reading Materials

There are no required books to purchase, all materials will be available within the course text and through the netlinks. Recommended reading will be included for students who want to make the most of this course.

Grading Policy

90 - 100 A - 80 - 89 B - 70 - 79 C - 60 - 69 D - Anything below a 60 is a failing mark and students will have to retake the course to proceed to Advanced.
