Course Description

 
 

This course offers advanced photographic instruction.

For those who understand the basics of photography, this course will teach you intermediate photography skills.  You will learn the four basic problems of pro photography and how to overcome each.

There are also creative lessons on black and white portrait photography, photographing models for profit and their portfolios and composite cards, editorial photography, developing your own b/w and color prints, advanced lighting, commercial, press and digital photography and finally, putting together your own professional photographers portfolio and setting up your own at home or studio photography business.


Free downloads pertinent to operating a portrait studio are given including photo imaging and editing, bookkeeping, accounting, order and invoicing record-keeping. Student will also prepare photographs and submit them for personal critique by the instructor.

This advanced course is for the serious beginner, intermediate or professional photographer needing to further study the art and science of photography.

Join this course in conjuction with any of the photography courses here on Universal Class.

Course Requirements

Student must complete five (5) portrait assignments in the following categories, and submit samples for review: (a) Black and White (b) Glamour (c) Child Photography (d) Family Photography (e) Commercial Photograph.
Online tests will be given to evaluate the students knowledge of the information in each section.

Course Goals

To help the student design his/her final portfolio of photographic samples, and to understand advanced photography techniques, developing his/her own prints in a home or day lab, and to have the materials and information needed to start an at-home or on-location portrait studio.

Reading Materials

E-books are offered on "Black and White Photography" and "Digital Photography" but not required.

Grading Policy

Each section will contain one assignment worth 100 points, and one online test worth 100 points.

Course Materials Needed

-The use of a professional 35mm, medium or large format camera.
-an on camera bounch flash lighting.

Advanced studio lighting equipment is not required, however, this would be an asset to your business.

Evaluation Of Student Portrait Work

Each section requires that the student prepare photographs for critique. An ample amount of film and developing will be required, but not more than five rolls of film unless the student decides to submit more work with instructor approval.

The following certificates will be offered for this course:
Certificate of Appreciation
Certificate of Attendance
Certificate of Merit
Certificate of Outstanding Achievement
will be written for students who request it. Other certificates may be offered depending on student success.
