Course Description
Do you know what to do if you are questioned or arrested by the police? If you think you might know but are not really sure then this course is for you!!
This class, packed with many lessons of interest, gives you an overview of our criminal justice system, its common steps and procedures, and what your rights are when faced with such feelings of uncertainty and hopelessness one feels when he is arrested for crime.
You'll learn many of the techniques police use to interrogate people including witnesses, many of whom become suspects as a result of the statements they give to police.We will discuss criminal procedures, investigative procedures, the courts, probation, jails and prisons, the rule of law-enforcement officers and bail bondsman, and certain procedures for restoration of civil rights in states that do not automatically restore them. We will also discuss ways to win a traffic ticket case or avoid points on your driver license, which can raise your insurance rate or have a negative impact on your employment I'm much that.
We will also discuss clemency, death penalty issues, special courts (such as drug court), advice for staying out of trouble, and the proper way of being pulled over by a law-enforcement officer. We will also discuss some ways you can defend yourself in certain criminal cases.
We will be discussing several aspects of criminal cases such as infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies, including how they are investigated, handled through the courts and the type of punishments that are imposed for these offenses.
NOTE: This instructor is out of South Carolina and is not an attorney at law. The laws vary from state to state but are quite similar. Because of this, and because of changes which may occur, accuracy is not guaranteed. While this course will give you a broad knowledge of criminal laws it is not a substitute for professional legal advice.

Course Goals
Our goals are: 1. To provide you with the knowledge necessary to be able to deal with situations in which one is taken into police headquarters and for questioning or arrested; 2. To provide you with information about the court system and how various cases are handled, including ways to defend yourself in many traffic and minor criminal cases; 3. To provide you with information on how cases are investigated and the roles of law enforcement in the handling of such cases through the courts; 4. To provide you with an overview of the penal system, including penal institutions, probation, parole, and community control (house arrest).
Grading Policy
You'll be graded on the basis of class participation, including discussion forums, test scores, scoring of assignments, and timeliness of lesson submission. Certificates will be issued on the basis of merit, academic excellence, and other meritorious class participation. Essays are graded on the basis of content, gramar, punctuation and spelling.

This class covers a broad-spectrum of lessons ranging from your constitutional rights, basic and detailed overviews of the criminal court system, jails and prisons, the death penalty, probation and other supervision, the juvenile justice system, traffic and other infractions , misdemeanors, and felonies. Certificate Policies
A Certificate will be issued to those who successfully complete the class. One will also be issued in other areas, including special merit, material class participation, completion of lessons and quizzes with high scores.
Instructor Availability
This instructor will be available at all times to answer questions about all aspects of this course. I check my e-mail constantly with special emphasis to my students. I answer my e-mails as I receive them so that every student will have his question answered quickly.
Graduating this class
In order to graduate this class you must complete all components. All assignments, exams, and other components are required to be completed, as well as the posting of the least one posting for each of the discussions in the forum. You must also have a score of the least 80% of the total scores possible. If you are in deficit of the scoring I will assist you by giving your extra credit or by allowing you to redo whatever assignment you may not be scoring well in.
