Course Description
The course presents the benefits of running and compares running with fitness walking. It covers how to choose running shoes and what other gear is necessary. Running technique is covered and there is a section on how to get started running for absolute beginners. Tips and drills are given for running farther and faster, and there is an introduction to racing. Nutrition for running is covered, as is injury prevention.
At the completion of the course, beginners should be able to run a mile without stopping and participants who are already running will get tips on how to improve. Those who prefer will be able to apply the information to fitness walking or racewalking instead of, or in addition to running. A list of terms and definitions is given for reference, and students will be able to ask questions of the instructor related to their own program and also post on the forum to share and learn from others. Everyone cleared by their doctor is welcome, from potential marathoners to those who want to work out just enough to improve their health.
