Course Description

Spelling 101Do you use your Spell Check on your computer obsessively? Are you afraid to write anything without a dictionary or computer spelling program?  Are you receiving low grades on schoolwork because of poor spelling?   Are your business emails filled with embarrassing spelling errors?  Sounds like you can use this online course!

Spelling 101 will help improve your spelling abilities in American English.  The course teaches you how to avoid misspellings by recognizing spelling errors quickly .You'll review not only the basic rules of spelling but also the most common spelling "trouble spots (commonly missed word and word patterns),  and the tricky synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, suffixes and prefixes. 

The class is self-paced and practice exercises are reviewed by the instructor with feedback. You set your own learning schedule so there's no pressure. Why not learn to write error free English, and improve your grades or help with the quality of your professional writing?

Course Requirements

There are no educational requirements other than a high school reading level.

·         Learn spelling strategies and tips

·         Become familiar with Common Homonyms and frequently Misspelled Words

·         To understand spelling dilemmas such as ‘ie’ vs. ‘ei’

Course Materials

All course materials will be online and no outside purchases will be required.

Grading Policy

The course consists of eight lessons. At the end of each lesson will be brief quiz and/or assignment based on the lesson material. There are points for assignments and quizzes and class participation in forums (discussions). A percentage grade will be given based on point accumulation.
