Course Meeting Times: This is a self-directed class. If there is need to meet online to discuss, times will be set up.
 

Course Description

 

Discover the variety of yummy treats on an adventure around the globe. Students will explore different destinations such as China and Mexico, just to name a couple. While at each hot spot, they will have the opportunity to learn how to go step by step through a recipe from that specific country.

 

You will want to get involved with this course because it will give you an opportunity to explore your cooking talents in the kitchen while learning about new places. It is very exciting to make new and exciting recipes for your friends and family. This is even a project that you could complete with your parents or grandparents. Imagine gaining those experiences in the kitchen and offering them to other people in your life.

 

Students whom are in the middle school grades are encouraged to register for this class. Minimum class requirements are to have an adult in the household when cooking. Students are to also have basic reading skills to complete the class experience. Sign up soon so you can get started on exploring these exciting places around the globe in Cooking Around the World.

Course Requirements

Course Requirements
 
 
1) Have an adult in the house when completing the cooking portion of class.
 
2) Access to a grocery store to buy the needed supplies for each assignments.
 
3) A panel of individuals who will taste each of your lessons and give feedback on each recipe. 
 
4) Research and follow directions for each lesson. If there is any question, please contact the instructor.
 
5) Accessing the forums to give feedback on a regular basis. Students should be able to answer all questions on the board after finishing up the lessons that are provided.
 
6) Be a student either in elementary or the middle school level.

Course Goals

1) To understand the basics of working in the kitchen in regards to safety and food preparation.
 
2) To research various locations around the world to find out some interesting facts and try different foods.
 
3) To gain more independence in the kitchen and use those daily life skills.

Course Materials

1) Needed grocery items for each recipe. Each recipe will have a list of needed supplies for each lesson.
 
2) An adult to monitor kitchen work.
 
3) Kitchen supplies
 
4) No need to purchase any reading material. It is all located with each lesson.

Grading Policy

Students are asked to “do your best."  You owe it to yourself.  Your grade will be based on the total points you earn in this course.  These points will be converted to a percentage score.  The percentage scale for determining your grade is:

            90-100% of the total possible points                 = A

            80-89%                                                           = B

            70-79%                                                           = C

            60-69%                                                           = D

You work on this class at your own pace.
