Course Description
Algebra 101 is intended for students who need to brush up, review or relearn the basics of how to perform Algebra operations. This course will benefit both current students and adults who need to know how to perform basic Algebra operations which involve simplifying, factoring, or solving equations in the form of inequalities, fractions, exponents or word problems.
Knowing how to solve Algebraic problems will increase your skills and open up many career opportunities. It's a way of thinking and figuring out how things work that you use in everyday life (though the majority of time you do not realize you are) So it is in your best interest (particularly in this age of technology) to learn this material.
This self-paced course is divided up in ten comprehensive lessons linked to practice assignments, web resources, and quizzes. This class is perfect for students preparing for Math tests (such as GED or other college placement exams) or adults needing to improve business related skills.
Course Requirements
Students taking this course should already possess some basic math skills. If you think you need to refresh your math skills, we highly recommend you complete a math course such as "Math Review" at http://home.universalclass.com/i/crn/7227.htm )
To finish this course, students must complete all assignments and quizzes and score better than 70% on the final exam.
Course Goals
Upon course completion students will be able to understand and successfully perform basic Algebra problems involving linear equations, linear inequalities, the process of simplification, the process of factoring, equations involving fractions and exponents, and solving word problems.

There are no required books for this course. The instructor recommends these two titles for additional study but they are not required to take the course:

Grading Policy
Only 9 quizzes and 1 final exam will be graded. Additional assignments and practice exercises will not: The nine practice tests following each lesson are worth about 50 points each. A final exam will follow at the end of the course worth 100 pts.
A Certificate of Class Participation will be earned when a student visits this class on at least 10 different days A Certificate of Appreciation will be awarded to students who complete all assignments and lessons in the class. A Certificate of Outstanding Achievement will be earned when students achieve a grade of 70% or better.
