Course Description
You do not need to be an art critic or scholar to be able to study art history. Art history has an aesthetic value, which means the beauty and meaning is in the eyes of the beholder.
This course is designed to provide you with information about the modernist art movement, the art movements within modernism, the elements, the major painters and their works, and art theories for critiquing art works. Modernism consists of the Background of Modernism: Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Art Nouveau, Abstract, Fauvism, Die Brucke, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Bauhaus, Der Blaue Reiter, Orphism, Constructivism, Dada, De Stijl, Purism, Die Neue Sachlichkeit, Art Deco, Surrealism, Social Realism, and Modernism as a Whole. This course is designed to familiarize the student with the necessary skill for identifying modernism art works, the artist, and critiquing the art works.
This course is designed to lead you through the art movements within modernism, the artists involved in the art movements, bring new perspectives into your life, and in the end you will have the knowledge to critic and appreciate art works from the modernism period.
Course Requirements
You are required to complete all the assignments, lessons, quiz, final, and forums in order to pass this course.
Course Goals
The main goal for this course is to learn the elements of the modernism art movement such as the background of modernism; what art movements influenced the development of modernism; and Symbolism, Art Nouveau, Fauvism, Die Brucke, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Bauhaus, Der Blaue Reiter, Orphism, Constructivism, Dada, De Stijl, Purism, Precisionist, Die Neue Sachlichkeit, Surrealism, and Social Realism art movement.
