Course Description
This is a course designed to prepare people who would like to teach English as a foreign language in Asia.
You'll have up to a year to finish this course and you can begin or end at any time.
This course takes an in depth look at the different aspects of teaching English in Asia. Some of the course topics include: What is Language; The language Learner; Being a Good Teacher; Classroom Management; Teaching Pronunciation; Topic Based or Grammar Based Teaching Methodology; EFL and Psychology; Asia and the Internet; and a few teaching ideas. There are also bonus extras of an on-line games book, tips on cooking in Asia, and some useful translated Chinese words available on line once you have completed this course. Students who finish this course will be given up-to-date information about teaching in Asia. This includes:
possible employers contact details, lesson plans to start you off and a tool kit to make your teaching career a success. Students will also be invited to join the Asia TEFL Yahoo group to stay in contact with fellow English teachers who are currently working in Asia.
In order to complete this course you will need to review all of the lessons and successfully complete the quizzes and questions that follow each lessons (see grading policy)
Course Requirements
A basic understanding of the internet is required, as all of the lessons are on-line. You do not need any higher education or educational experience to complete this course. You will be required to join the ChineseYahoo group to access some lesson extra's. This is free website and costs you no money to join. An open mind and a willingness to learn will also go a long way.
Course Goals
To try and equip teachers with basic teaching skills so that they can enter the EFL teaching world feeling equipped with the tools they need.
Course Materials
All of the course material will be supplied on-line. Some of the material you will need to downloaded from the Asia TEFL website. This includes pictures, lesson plans and free software for teaching.
Grading Policy
At the end of every lesson there is a quiz or mini test. A point will be awarded for every succesful correct answer (for some questions there are 3 or 4 points awarded per question). At the end of the course a possible 100 points could be earned. If a student attains 60 points or higher then they will qualify to be awarded a "Pass" certificate. Students who achieve 80 or higher points will qualify to be awarded "Certificate of outstanding achievement".
