Course Overview
During the course, students will prepare two articles for submission to actual magazines. Each article will be critiqued regarding its preparedness for submission and its chances for being accepted for publication.
Students may also post their articles in the class forum for other students to view and offer suggestions.
Course Requirements
Students will need access to a recent copy of Writer's Market, a good dictionary and a writer's style manual. These references may be available at the local library or online. Students will choose a topic to write an article about and may need to locate reference materials to complete their project. Research information may be found at a library or online. Basic knowledge of English composition is useful, but previous writing experience is not required.
Course Goals
To research the niche market, learn to prepare a query letter, write an article and edit it.
Course Materials
Students will be researching and writing two articles. Students should have access to either the internet or a large library to conduct research. Writing articles can be time-consuming, so students should be prepared to devote time to their chosen topic.
Grading Policy
Proper spelling and use of grammar will be considered in grading articles. Tests are regarded as tools to help participates evaluate their own progress. Certificates will be issued following successful completion of assignments.
